This method of construction allows for easy rib repair. The planking can be replaced with moderate effort and fine workmanship, while the stems and bottom board are more challenging, they are still fully repairable. The remainder of the guideboat includes it's decks, rails, seats, oars, paddle, yoke, and hardware. All of these pieces can also be repaired and restored to original quality or better.
The Guideboat's superior construction allows them to last generations, even centuries. Many of the first Guideboats are still being used on Adirondack waters to this day. At Atkinson ADK Craft we would rather restore historic and cherished heirlooms than build new boats to replace them. This is why restorations make up the vast majority of our business, and we are proud of that.
If you own or look after an Adirondack Guideboat that is in need of service, no matter the condition, we are happy to assess the necessary work and provide your boat with the quality services that it deserves.
