Atkinson Adirondack Craft is owned and operated by Nathaniel Atkinson; avid sculptor, outdoor educator, and Adirondack historian.
Currently in the early stages of his work, Nathaniel uses his experiences in fine arts and his time in the Adirondacks to shape and guide his work here at Atkinson ADK Craft.
Operating in the Northern Adirondack Mountains of New York, I work to incorporate my understanding of location and surroundings into sculptures that speak to both functionality and materiality. My current work focuses on the experiences of the individual and the external factors that shape those experiences, inherently shaping the individual themselves.
The Adirondacks have a longstanding precedent as a rugged and trying landscape with the benefit of natural beauty and solitude. To appreciate and experience this area, innovation has provided modes of travel which continue to shape the communities that populate this region. My current studies of the Adirondack Guideboat and its regional prominence coalesce with my thoughts on form to create new craft. Craft that provide a platform to experience the landscapes which fostered their own creation and further individual experiences.
